Jeffrey A. Dodge, Associate Dean for Students and Associate Clinical Professor of Law, has been invited to present to the Moscow Chapter of PFLAG (formerly the organization known as Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). The presentation is entitled "The Next Frontier of the LGBTQIA Civil Rights Movement: Understanding Recent Legal Changes and Thinking about the Future" and will occur on Wednesday, September 2nd at 6:30 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church Basement in Moscow. A description of the presentation is below. Members of the public are welcome. Have you been confused by the rapid legal changes affecting LGBTQIA folks in the past year? Or perhaps you are wondering what’s next? As enthusiasm settles after Obergefell v. Hodges and the historic marriage equality ruling becomes the law of the land, much works remains in the fight for equality in our country. Did you know that 31 states lack comprehensive laws that protect gay and transgender Americans from being fired, evicted or denied lines of credit? It is still legal for Idaho's LGBTQIA community to be discriminated against in employment, public accommodations, and housing, among other areas. Jeff Dodge, Associate Dean and Faculty Member at the University of Idaho College of Law, will discuss these topics at our September meeting. Join us to celebrate the victories, discuss the legal challenges ahead, and brainstorm about changes that are still needed.
