On Friday, March 24, 2017, Professor Shaakirrah R. Sanders presented at the Wayne Law Review Symposium The Changing Face of the War on Drugs: Mass Incarceration, Overcriminalization, and Evolving Drug Policy. The symposium addressed mass incarceration, overcriminalization, evolving drug policies, and sentencing decisions. The Honorable Denise Page Hood, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, gave a keynote address. Professor Sanders participated on a panel entitled: “Transformative Change and Intersectional Policy Solutions.” This panel was moderated by Dr. Nazgol Ghandnoosh, research analyst with The Sentencing Project. Panelists included the Honorable Marcia Cooke, district judge, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida; Heather Thompson, Professor of History, University of Michigan; Saul Green, senior counsel, Miller Canfield; and Rev. Vivian Nixon, executive director, College and Community Fellowship.
